PREFIXES
The prefix calc means "stone". Early man used stones to count or calculate.
The prefix celer means “quick”. In the formula E = MC², the C stands for celerity, that is, speed.
The prefix dur means “hard”. Something that is strong and long lasting is durable.
ROOTS
The root cid (and its variant cis) means “cut”. The sharp tooth that can cut well is called an incisor.
The root fort (and its variant forc means “strong”. Castles were sometimes more than homes; they were also fortresses.
The root fract (and its variant frag) means "break". If you fracture a tooth, the dentist might have to re-build it and put a cap on it.
SUFFIXES
The suffix dom means “quality” or "realm". Saudi Arabia is a kingdom.
